Bobbi Brown's Basic Life Rules

Hey y'all!! So I have decided that every Monday (or so) I will post beauty related advice or a fun tag!
Today I will post about Bobbi Brown's basic life rules that is in her "Beauty Book"!

"Rule Number 1: BE NICE, I'm not kidding. This is rule Number One and it's not negotiable. You must be kind whether you are talking to a waiter, a teacher, or your mother (okay, you can be a little bit rude to your family once in a while). The more you give to others, the more you get.

Rule Number 2: TELL THE TRUTH, it's not just the right thing to do. Honesty also saves time. Life is just simpler and easier when you are truthful with others, and with yourself.

Rule Number 3: TAKE RISKS, I came to New York to become a makeup artist without knowing anyone or anything. So I picked up the phone book and cold-called anyone who listed under makeup or modeling. It was crazy, but that's how I began my career.

Rule Number 4: NEVER GIVE UP, when I started working in makeup I had no experience. A lot of times I had to work for free to prove myself, and sometimes people wouldn't even let me do that. Even though I had really discouraging days, I never let no become the final answer.

Rule Number 5: BE ON TIME, no one likes to be kept waiting. But if you are going to be more than five minutes late - call!!

Rule Number 6: BE OPEN!!! While I was doing an in-store appearance, an older lady asked me for tips to make her lipstick last. I took time to give her my best advice, after which the lady said she thought I would be great on the Today show. I told her that was a big dream of mine. Turns out the little red-haired woman was the grandmother of the Today show's executive producer. That meeting helped me become the show's guest beauty editor.

Rule Number 7: CARE ABOUT SOMETHING, sports, music, politics. Anything you like. Get involved and get active.

Rule Number 8: GIVE BACK, There are so many ways to make this world a better place, whether it is helping the environment, people in your community, or places halfway across the globe.

Rule Number 9: WORK HARD, start at the bottom and learn all you can. Be strong. Don't get upset when things don't come to you right away.

Rule Number 10: LOOK PEOPLE IN THE EYE, It shows confidence.

Rule Number 11: DREAM BIG, you never know..."

Beauty and Style Books!

Recently I have been OBSESSED with beauty and style books!! It all started when I went with Jane to the local book store here in Duck, North Carolina (called the Island Bookstore). Her and I usually just walk straight to the teen section and look at all the cheesy summer romance novels, but since it is winter I wanted to change it up a little bit. I was just looking around for something different to read when I saw some style and beauty books! The one that really caught my eye was the Lauren Conrad book about style! I think every girl should have at least one book about either style or beauty because they really do help A LOT!!

Here are some of the ones I picked up!! :)

Here are all the books :)
I absolutely love Lauren Conrad so how could I not get this book!?! It's full of great advice and tips.
Here are just some pages from her book :)

Ok so this Bobbi Brown book Beauty Rules is my FAVORITE out of all of these!! It has given me soooo much advise about makeup and how you should treat your skin!! I definitely recommend THIS book if you are just going to get one of these!! Bobbi really knows how to be real and understands about the average girl!
Bobbi Brown tells about how to make your face beautiful instead of trying to make it look made-up. She shows in this book how to make it all look natural. But she also has some alternatives for those fun nights out!
As you can guess if you've read any Seventeen Magazine that this book is a little far out! This one is not really about your "everyday" natural look! But it does have some really fun beauty and fashion tips. But hey, we're young, why not try some really fun looks, right?!? I mean you only live once!!

I wish I was good at styling hair like this!! This is gorgeous!!

My favorite memories are when I would go to Deer Valley, Utah with my best friend on spring break (yes its spring break but we had it in March so I'm still considering that as winter) and we would ski all morning then ski to the Stein Eriksen Lodge, eat lunch then go back out and do some more skiing :) wish I could be doing this right now!! lol

OBX Beach Trip Haul

Hey everyone!! I am currently at the beach with my best friend Jane (@lillypulitzerj)!

Every year a few days after Christmas we go down to her beach house in Southern Shores (near the Outer Banks) for a week! This beach trip is full of outlet shopping, looking for amazing deals at small local stores, and fabulous meals.

Here are some of the things I got! (all of it was like 50 or 75% off!)
Patagonia pullovers are an ESSENTIAL for cold and snowy winters!! When I first saw this one I had very mixed feelings about it, and I still do. But since it was 75% off which made it only $25 (originally $100!) it was a steal!! I have already worn it with skinny jeans and my new white converse.. I felt like such a hipster. LOL
I have a slight obsession with Shep Shirts from Vineyard Vines. But they are sooooo darn expensive!! When I saw this one from Life's a Beach on sale, IN MY SIZE I flipped out!! Haha, needless to say I got it :)
Can you believe that I didn't have a plain white oxford!?!! Yeah, neither could I!! So I just picked this one up for 75% off a Ralph Lauren.
Ok so I have been wanting/needing a chambray shirt for FOREVER but I could never find the right one. When I went into JCrew I was just browsing hoping they would have something cute on sale, and that's when I saw this shirt!! It was 75% off and sooo comfy!! I'm so glad I finally got this shirt!
The moment I saw this sweater on KJP's instagram I fell in LOVE with it!! I mean how could you not?!?!?! It's just so cute!! So Jane and I went to the Ralph Lauren outlet not looking for anything and we stumbled across this beaut! AND it was 75% off!! So I just haaaaaaddd to get it!! So when we were standing in the checkout line I was just saying "oh my gosh I just love this sweater so much, I'm so glad I found it" over and over and over again to Jane. Because I was really happy, lol. So she jumped out of line and went over to get one for herself! Now we each of matching Christmas sweaters :)
Ok, so I jumped on the bandwagon with these white converse. lol But I couldn't help it!! I keep putting on outfits and thinking, darn, I could really use some white converse with this!! So, Jane and I went to Rack Room Shoes to get her some Sperry's, and they were having a SALE!!! (my favorite word!!) The sale was buy one get one half off!! So since she only wanted one pair of shoes she let me get the converse for half off!! (did I mention she was such a good friend?!?) I was super pumped! The total for these came out to $20
When I saw these Southern Tide sheets at Belk I think I almost screamed. I have been wanting to get these for forever, but they were always too expensive for me to buy online! So I saw these for half off and I would regret it fully if I didn't buy them! So I went to the checkout counter to pay for these and I asked do you have anymore coupons or anything (like I always do) and she did! She gave me an extra $10 off my purchase bringing the sheets down to $25!!
I got these at the Island Bookstore. I. Think. I'm. OBSESSED.
Nail Polish is always one of my favorite pick me ups. I seem to be always in need of a new one. I got these all at TJMaxx and can you believe I got them ALL for $5?!?! I couldn't believe it when I saw these brands (and these good colors) in the clearance bin!! I've never thought to look for nail polish at TJMaxx, I guess it was just my lucky day!
